What You Need To Be One Of The Good Abstract Artists

By Brenda Miller

Most of us know that one person, who doodles and draws on any clean surface. Sometimes, what they draw might be easy to understand like a landscape or a plant, but other times, it might be a series of lines or dots, which are confusing to look at. If they fall into the latter category, they can hone their skills and join the league of exceptional abstract artists. However, apart from the ability to draw well, they still need other additional qualities.

When you are starting out, consider taking some classes, or interning under an experienced person. This will allow you to develop your skills, and gain confidence in your skills. If you are concerned about financial security, start out as a part-time painter. Then when you are sure you can make enough money from, switch to doing it full time.

People tend to assume that people who deal with abstract art are scatter brained, but after you look at a number of their pieces you will notice some consistency. In order to be named as one of the good ones, you have to maintain this consistency. This way, your audience can understand what you were trying to say.

In order to come up with any form of art, you have to be creative. Sometimes, you will borrow ideas from other people, but what you display on the canvas should be completely original. Avoid waiting for moments of inspiration. In order to keep sharpening your skills, you should make sure to at least sketch something every day.

Abstract paintings, generally, have many layers to them. In order to do this and not mess up the result, you need to be very good at manipulating your mediums. Most experts advise choosing one set of materials and then fine tuning your skills, using them. However, you are not prohibited from mixing them up every once in a while. This will make it easier to create the layers, and have different textures.

There are many artists in Los Angeles, California and most of them know each other. You should try to join this community. This will keep you in the loop on what is happening, and even give you some advice which can be used to grow your career. You might even get more experienced artists who can give you some pointers, or patrons who can support you financially.

Selling artwork can be tricky. It is normally hard to put a price on your talent, but you still need to make money somehow. If the prices are too high you might not make any sales, but if they are too low, you might forever be a starving artist. To stay on the safe side, you should talk to the more experienced people to help you rate and price your pieces.

A large number of people might not understand your work, and you might be surrounded by critics more often than you would like. You have to be very thick-skinned in order not to let this affect you. You also need to learn how to learn from this criticism.
