Hair Stylist Clothing Shows Professionalism

By Sandra Collins

Most would consider a successful salon a place with a steady clientele and many services under one roof. Many patrons will say that any operator that delivers good work quickly is a keeper. However, busy days cannot be avoided but operators can take shortcuts so they will accomplish more in less time. One way would be to utilize hair stylist clothing and work shoes instead of street wear.

Some stylists feel that uniforms should in be worn during training only and regular clothes are an expression of who they are as an individual. While a flashy presentation may be attractive, it is not always functional. This is especially true when it comes to the use of chemicals, which can damage clothing.

Although some stains can be removed, other treatments that tend to burn when left on a surface too long can leave permanent damage. Often just wearing a long apron is not enough, as a smock offers a little more coverage. Some styles even come with enough pockets to hold tools securely.

Salon owners that make it mandatory for their staff to wear a uniform admit that it does cut down on accidents. Even better, there is a look of professionalism that is attractive to new clients. Besides the durability of a uniform, pockets can store sharp objects safely so that the operator or their customer will risk harm.

During busy days, a stylist may forget something needed to tend to another client and find themselves making multiple trips. Wearing a smock with ample pockets saves time and most patrons appreciate this. When time is saved, it allows the operator to offer more services or take anyone who walks in without an appointment.

Back in the day, hair stylish wore something that resembled a nurse uniform but now that has changes. Smocks are made to fit most body shapes and offer flexibility. Even better, they come colorful patterns and hues so they look more fun than functional.

When it comes to hiding stains, some salon staff will wear black or dark grey. Some prefer this though it may not protect the fabric and the color tends to fade. However, it is a popular color but some clothing may not be appropriate to wear on the floor, such as tight fitting items.

As a safety measure, salon owners require staff to wear dark colored shoes with a rubber sole. While an assistant or designated person should be on hand to clean up messes, preventing an accident is not guaranteed on busy days. Sometimes, when operators wear fashionable outfits, this may be complemented by shoes that do not offer a lot of support. If an injury occurs, everyone is likely to hurt financially.

Safety is the best measure when it comes to keeping a business going strong. As more choose services like these to maintain a particular image, most owners may find their operation expanding in the near future. More working people are discovering that having the best appearance can pay off in a number of ways. Some of these are the result of a concentrated effort to upgrade, or by coincidence.
