By Linda Hall

A lot of stuff has been written over time, and because of availability or accessibility, online or in print, concerns like plagiarism, copyright infringement, and libel are often in play. Many if not most of these are accidental and have been done with no malice. Laws today however will say that producing works with these contents could make the producers liable.

The liability lies in those creating new materials to use for any kind of creative work involving words or print. Today, so much trouble and hassle is being avoided or prevented with a thing called entertainment script clearance. This classifies every script done for the film, television, theater and related sectors to be cleared for all kinds of liabilities before being used.

Entertainment concerns say that care is needed for handling content, and editorial policies have to be supported by specialists who are experts in the process. Clearing any script relies on heavy duty research and familiarity with applicable laws. The process is one that prepares the script for further use in all sorts of programs, from movies, to plays to shows on TV.

If the clearance is made out, directors or producers may usually use the thing relevant to work like episodes, pilots or one time programming. Theater will also be part of this, and this expertise will be providing excellent ways of cutting time from the work that is being done by writers. The process is intensive but works with lots of tools for it.

The internet, for instance, offers a whole world of assistive searches and instant comparisons for lines and words. Duplicate content or even plagiarism can now be detected by a number of excellent software applications. These have become standard for any kind of content online, and now are also in use for this sector as well as other ones in need of such apps.

A lot of directors are impatient for good reason when it comes to processing manuscripts without delays. The scripts have to be done and available for all the relevant people, from crew, to management to cast. If the script is absent, nothing will be achieved here, and lots of money in escrow could be wasted.

Producers may also look at the money or time lost in the process. Failure in this way will even make any project that much nearer to canning or abandonment. There have been many projects that were shut down in this way, never got into any sort of production level, or passed up and taken on years later with folks who gambled on them.

Much of the things that is done for this kind of work is not that hard to do. But it also requires experience and a general expertise about many things that are connected to literature or the movies, or any field that applies. These are varied, but all related in their use of words.

Libel and plagiarism or copyright problems are usually messy problems in the legal sense for any kind of show. Many times in the past, scripts passed and then were found to have these kinds of content, so editorial policies have tightened. And clearance now is something that is a vital go ahead for a field with lots of money at stake.
