Try to be close and personal. When composing your shot, zoom in or get closer, to eliminate messy backgrounds and keep the focus on your subject. Make sure your subject completely occupies the shot's frame. Too much background, no matter how scenic, can detract from the focus of the image. As you get closer, new details will also appear on your subject.

If you are shooting photographs in a florescent light setting, make sure that you adjust your camera's white balance settings appropriately. Fluorescent lighting tends toward the green and blue end of the spectrum, so photographing subjects under these conditions can make them appear cooler than intended if you don't manually fix the red saturation on your camera.

You should have an idea what you are going to use your photograph for before you take it. Sometimes it is better to shoot a picture horizontally and other times vertically. After you take the picture, you can always edit it to look the opposite way, but it saves you hours of editing time by simply getting it right on the very first try.

When you are capturing the precious moments of a wedding on camera, try taking some of the many unexpected shots to warm up: a makeup bag, the shoes that the bride will wear or the glass of champagne the bride is sipping. This can be a great opportunity to get pictures.

To increase your chances of getting a nice photo, snap multiple pictures while walking toward your subject. Ideally, the subject should fill the frame by the final shot. The details will help the viewer have more interest in the picture.
