An Insight On Empowering Books For Women

By Alissa Gilliam

The number of empowering books for women on sale has been on the rise of late. This is mainly attributed to increasing awareness on issues of gender equality. The society is being sensitized on the rights of women. However, while some of the literature is truly aimed at enlightening and emphasizing the plight of ladies, others are money targeted without any serious content.

Transformation from the olden ways of life has majorly affected man. Long are the days when ladies were solely expected to submit to their husbands. Equality at all levels is the in-thing in offices and families alike. This has confused women spoilt for choices as there are no prior rules detailing the way forward. Writers have thus taken to enlightening and guiding them.

The realization that gender equality is integral for the betterment of today's world has pushed ladies to be forceful, always striving to outdo their male counterparts whenever a chance is presented. This has necessitated civil conflicts and sadly families have suffered the blunt of it all.

Instead of making this world a better place to live it has done the direct opposite. Court battles are on the increase. The family structure was mutilated long ago and respect forgotten. All this time writers have provided no remedy. All they have been doing is feed us with loads of irrelevant literature while the pillars of our society crumbled.

The masses are continually being fed with wrong information. This could be attributed to disparity in the printing and publishing houses. In some cases, the publishers over price or under price the books being published so as to gain an edge over others. The regulatory bodies have failed in ensuring evenness in the industry. This has led to the crumbling of the main pillars that support the society.

Regulations should be put in place to check the contents of these books. Besides, the quality of print and pricing ought to be standardised to the best interest of the readers. It should be noted that they put all their trust on them and any actions as a result of reading them should not be misguided.

Media houses ought to keenly sieve advertisements presented to them. It would be sad for misleading adverts on books targeting women to be run on any shows. Consumers are powerless to the influence of journalism and as such, care must be taken on content presented to them. If anything, they are there to cater for the interest of their audience. Corporate social responsibility dictates they promote only work that improves welfare.

Conversion of the world to a global village has made the internet more powerful than any government. A lot of information and literature is availed there for free or at a cost. We are all encouraged to read through it all to gain an understanding a woman's role in the society. Ladies should specifically befriend the internet if they are to act their role. This is besides motivation to advance in their careers and development of talents. With this, empowering books for women will regain their relevance.
