The Rationale Behind Conspiracy Theory Parodies

By Mattie Knight

Conspiracy theories have been part and parcel of our daily lives for a long time. Everybody has heard of at least a version of speculation surrounding one or more contentious issues or piece of news. The effects of these theories is not in the spin offs themselves but in the effects that they cause to the social fabric globally. They tend to be more disruptive than most people give them credit. This trend has lead to widespread paranoia. To counter these harmful effects we need conspiracy theory parodies in our lives.

Researchers have found a positive correlation between conspiracies and various antisocial behaviors seen on people. It has become known that people who are exposed to these speculations exhibit negative behavior towards certain projects and initiatives. A good example is refusal to vote, take vaccination and reduce our carbon footprint in response to government, vaccination and climatic conjecture respectively.

These theories are dangerously subversive. They undermine the confidence of people in established positions and projects that are geared towards helping people. The populace becomes highly suspicious of the government and all its projects. Once the conjecture start and spread through rumors, it undermines most of the efforts of the government. Peoples start believing in hidden agendas and selfish interests and end up losing confidence in the government.

These suppositions have a tendency to cause feelings such as pity, powerlessness and hopelessness. They feel that they are weak and cannot change anything. As a result, they become distant and disengaged in national politics and the social fabric. They become resigned to fate and believe that certain only a certain class of people have the power to rule. Research shows that these speculations have the power to influence people even without their awareness.

Suspicion and speculations can result in the formation of corrupt governments and regimes. During the holocaust, the Nazi regime used propaganda to spread rumors that the Zionists were spreading their influence in the world. This led to the mass murder of Jews in Europe led by Adolf Hitler.

Recently, the western governments wove and disseminated conjecture around the spread of terrorist networks leading to the creation of fascist policies in foreign affairs and domestically. These have discriminated against people of a certain race and religious affiliations.

Unfortunately, conspiracies have resulted in extensive global expenditure on the military and securing of arms. These weapons of mass destruction are because of suspicion between states. The world lives in constant fear of another world war inclusive of nuclear power. Sadly, most of these weapons find their way to the black market where they are sold to terrorists.

Conspiracy theories have found their way into almost every aspect of civilization today. Every story and event has been woven into conjecture. It has led to political and social discussions globally. This has led to distrust and hostility instead of holding mature debates. Thus, we need more conspiracy parodies to break the ice.
