What You Should Know About Dating App Scams

By Douglas Scott

Advance in technology has changed how people meet and establish long-term relationships. It is possible for people to start relationships after meeting online on various dating sites. However, not everyone is lucky to find a partner online. Some people have bad experiences due to dating app scams which are on the rise. Online scamming is widely spread on dating sites because there is potential for getting personal and use it to get money from unsuspecting individuals.

Identifying scammers is not difficult as many online users assume. Scammers may possess different characteristics, they have similar goals when it comes to online scamming. It is important to know, everyone can fall victim to online scamming. Understanding this fact helps online users be on the lookout for some strange behaviors while communicating with potential partners. Below are key factors every online user should pay attention to avoid scamming.

The age difference is a common indicator, the person you are talking to is a scammer. Online con artists target older people because they are more vulnerable compared to the younger individuals. Old people are more focused on getting partners to overcome loneliness. They fail to pay attention to some fraudulent characters posed by conmen, that is why scammers take advantage of their vulnerability and technology illiteracy.

Scammers are not identical but have similar behaviors. A typical scammer will insist on getting personal information from you and profess their love after few days of communication. They possess erratic, dramatic and other strange characters you would not want a partner to have. Keep in mind, scammers will always ask to communicate outside dating sites. This means they prefer sending text or emails and avoid talking via phone.

Do not fall for anyone based on profile photo or details. Many people post photos that do not belong to them. Their profile information is also false, it does not match their true identity. Make use of Google image to search for duplicates. If by any chance you find multiple photos of the same person but with a different bio, chances are you are being scammed.

Language is a factor many online users overlook when dating online. It is always good to check for spelling errors or grammar mistakes. It is normal for an individual to spell one word incorrectly, multiple mistakes proof the person is not who they claim to be. Conmen have poor grammar and with time they contradict their own story.

Online conmen have a habit of bailing out on dates. The idea of meeting physically makes them uncomfortable, forcing them to give false excuses. In case they agree to show up for a date, scammers ask victims to pay for flight tickets or taxi.

Scammers manipulate their victims to ensure they get what they want. It is normal to come across words like I thought you were in love or we should trust one another for the relationship to work. To avoid such scams, do not share too much personal information on dating apps.
