Secret Chambers Of The Great Pyramid Mystery

By Janine Hughes

The largest and oldest man made structure in Giza and the whole of Egypt is the Great Pyramid of Giza. It is the oldest and the only surviving member of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World built as a burial site for Pharaoh Khufu. Word is that there could secret chambers of the Great Pyramid, which are believed to have the remains of Pharaoh since his remains have not been discovered yet.

The already known chambers are three in number- the base and two upper ones. The base one supports the rest of the structure while the upper two are called the Queen and King Chambers. From the Queens section, two tunnels arise which are blocked externally by stone doors. It is speculated that the tunnels lead to a secret chamber.

The Great Pyramid is adorned with four known shafts. Two of its shafts are from Chambers of the King and the other two in the Queens. The Kings shafts lead to the exterior of this structure while it is not known where those from the Queens lead to. All other pyramids lack shafts and therefore its not easy to solve this mystery.

Explorers use the shaft to let explorer robots into the pyramid as they are too small for a person to fit into. The exploration began in 1992 with a robot exploring the shafts in the section of the Queen. The robots climbed 200 feet before discovering a door with two copper handles. This was strange because of all other Egyptian pyramids; none had such doors with copper handles.

What lay behind the door is only a matter of speculation. To some, it is the secret chamber with the remains of Pharaoh. For others, the doors were built to confuse anyone dumb enough to try stealing Khufus treasures. Still others claim that the solution to the puzzle that is the mystery doors reveals the exact resting place of Khufus remains and his treasures.

Another exploration took place in 2002 with a new robot able to drill through the door found in 1992 in the Southern shaft. After drilling and inserting a camera, the robot took pictures of another secret door. This was one was only 20 centimeters from the first door! This was a completely new twist as there are no other pyramids with doors and in fact the section of the King does not have any.

More exploration went on in 2014, this time in the Kings section. Hieroglyphs in red paint and carvings made in stone believed to be 4, 500 years old were discovered by the robot. It is believed that the two were made when the chambers were in construction and therefore if their message was deciphered, we would gain a deeper understanding into the shaft purpose and construction.

We are still not anywhere near solving the mystery of these doors. In addition, despite being the most technologically advanced people to ever live on this planet, we are still far away from figuring out the purpose of those structures. It is the tallest structure in the Ancient world, has lived 4500 years and is truly magnificent in every sense but we still have no clue.
