Popular Arts Destinations in Atlanta

Georgia's premier city of Atlanta boasts many important humanities institutions. Visitors to the town can see the best of the Atlanta arts scene by touring any of these venues. Viewing any of the displayed masterpieces can give visitors a deeper appreciation of the fine arts in Atlanta.

High Museum of Art

Visitors can tour this internationally renowned museum to see many priceless artistic endeavors. Exhibits showcase everything from 19th century Western european paintings to modern forms of American artwork. Permanent exhibits feature collections from artists such as Claude Monet and Giovanni Bellini. There are also exhibits displaying photography from notable moments in history. Visitors can find this museum, which is a part of the Woodruff Humanities Center, on Peachtree Street in Atlanta's humanities district.

Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center

This venue is home to the Atlanta Ballet and Atlanta Opera. Its colourful interior is adorned with modern glass chandeliers sculptured in unique formations. In addition to opera and ballet, guests can also enjoy Broadway shows and performances from leading music acts. This performance hall is found in the Cumberland neighborhood in the northwestern section of metro Atlanta.

Callanwolde Fine Arts Center

The museum is contained inside a historic mansion, giving visitors a homey feel. Musicians, storytellers, dancers and poets showcase their talents for audiences. Guests can also admire the exhibits featuring lovely paintings and sculptures made by local artists. Callanwolde even offers classes and other educational resources to teach others how to create their own works of art. Visitors can travel to the northeastern section of Atlanta to find this superb museum.

Michael C. Carlos Museum

This Atlanta humanities museum has many artworks and artifacts from ancient times. Visitors can see exhibits featuring traditional pieces from Greece, Egypt, China and even prehistoric America. Plenty of the pieces designate convictions from ancient religions. The museum is located on the campus of Emory Varsity.

Fernbank Museum of Natural History

Travellers who wish to see a little bit of natural history among other fine arts in Atlanta will absolutely not be disappointed in this establishment. Visitors can see many displays of artifacts and dinosaur bones from primeval times. There are also cultural exhibits featuring jewelry, images and art pieces representing many different ethnic sectors. An exhibit about the history of Georgia can additionally be seen. The museum is found just east of downtown near Emory University.
