Make sure that the described events have a chronological element that will keep the reader captivated and rearing to find out what the future events are. You can have several stories included in your novel but all should flow in a given distinct direction.

To be a great writer, you need to learn how to help the reader use all their senses. Let them see, feel, taste, smell and hear the events that are going on in your story. Vivid descriptions of characters and events let the reader feel like they are part of the whole experience. Instead of pouring everything out yourself let your reader use their imagination whenever possible. The actions of your characters show who they really are.

Make use of humor as much as possible but be cautious not to overdo it. With a good sense of humor, virtually anything is readable. Ensure that you use a bit of wit so that the jokes are not so obvious; let the reader use their intelligence to pick out the fun.
