By Charles Cortner

Programming your universal remote control is the first step towards managing power and volume among other functions on your electronic. There is a slight difference in remotes available in the market considering that they are manufactured by different companies. They are however compatible. You can program remotes on your own without requiring professional assistance.

The automatic search method in used to program digital remotes. It is tedious to opt for a trial and error method because of much probability associated with it. The process begins by turning on the component that is to be programmed. These components are TV or VCR, DVD, etc.

You will see an indicative light that is green in color and remains that way for a while. This is followed by a simultaneous pressing of both the component and on-off button. The light indicating on-off status flips. The indicating light stays that way until you take the next step.

You proceed with programming your universal remote control by releasing buttons that had been pressed earlier. Watch as the indicator for on-off illuminates steadily. You will follow this step by releasing the PLAY button that had early been pressed on the accessory. The component will go off once you repeat this process around five times.

If the components go off, you are supposed to alternately press and release the button indicated as REVERSE on the remote. It is expected that the components will come on. Do not make another move until this happens since the results will not be satisfactory.

Only by pressing the button indicated as STOP will you successfully save the channels that were searched. The button should be pressed alternately. It allows you to easily access channels and other setting shortcuts by the press on one button. Watch the nature of blinking indicated by the on-off lighting.

The codes are only sent to your component if the on-off button blinks ten times. The process is considered unsuccessful if this happens four times. You should repeat these motions until the search is complete. Pressing the STOP button allows the accessory to save the newly searched codes.

Some of these accessories will come with operation manuals to help you in programming your universal remote control. The differences arise when you have varying features depending on the model and manufacturer. Most of them are easily compatible. A manual or automated search might be successful in giving you the functions you need. This is where a variation of procedure is witnessed.
