Papers are classified into types, colors, weights, grades, and textures or finishings.

A beginner would normally ask about the right paper best for magazines and printing works. Let us focus first with the paper finishing. Finishings refer to the paper coat which is applied in the reproduction process. The common paper finishings are matte sheets, glossy type, and the uncoated paper. Cast coated papers have the highest gloss effect both on papers and boards perfect for covers, labels, and cards.

For page magazines, lightweight coated papers are highly advised. Apart from the magazines, it is good also in printing catalogues and brochures. Its appearance is well-coated, thin, and very light. Its usual weight is about forty grams/meter square.

The next paper is this matte finished sheets wherein it has relative rough surface and can avert the reflection of light. Matte paper is grouped into two -- the coated and the uncoated. Printers select this paper because its finishings produce high quality colors.

Let us go on to the paper types. This is classified as to its usage. Coated paper is the first kind wherein it contains an enamel coat that allows it to appear shiny and glossy surface. This paper does not absorb the ink when printing and due to this, many printers prefer using it. The photo colors are sharp and bright. Applied with UV coating will then improve the paper's durability but it is expensive and unrecyclable.

The second is the uncoated sheets. These appear not glossy and flat. The ink penetrates into the paper fibers that will not work well for high-resolution magazine pages. But the good side of it is that is can be used again. Thirdly, the recycled paper that is by its name eco-friendly since it came from used papers. It is quite popularly used nowadays but the price is not that friendly.

Now let us continue to the paper's weight which is its actual physical weight. Take into account that in this business, the lighter the better is your product. It can bring convenience and comfort without easily getting tired of holding the magazines. When magazines' too bulky, one could assume that it is too heavy. The weight is measured in pounds from, seventy, sixty, or fifty. For inside pages, the usual is eighty and one hundred pounds.
