Doomsday Preppers: The Strategy of Becky Brown

By Terrance Franklin

This segment of Doomsday Preppers proved to be a very important factor - everybody needs somebody who is a sniper. My sniper friend and I can be just like a post-apocalyptic buddy cop film. He would be the super deadly awesome under fire type and I would spout within tacky pop culture meta-referrals. I'd have the macros to a science though. Anyhow, I am getting ahead of myself.

1. Martial Laws

Becky's failure of choice is a declaration of martial law by the US government. National Geographic summarily terminated this possibility as something which could not occur in the United States. However, the historic context for the affirmation of martial law has resulted in a few of the greatest tragedies of the twentieth century. The Great Leap Forward, leading to approximately 30 million fatalities, is an example that might come to mind.

Even though many of us may feel guarded by Constitutional rights, legislature such as the National Defense Authorization Act have transformed the playing field. Having the ability to treat domestic land like a war zone, the government can declare martial law at any time in not so many words. We live in changing times and the most ancient rights may be challenged as we move ahead.

2. Bugging in - the ideal idea?

The fear of the government needs to go hand in hand with certain planning skills. The most important change which would occur under martial law is the common organization of resources. This would mean that your foodstuff is actually our foodstuff. Unlike defending against looters, deadly force wouldn't be acceptable in a government takeover, certainly not in an urban area. If government take over is actually the reason behind prepping, bugging out should be the major priority.

3. Sniping

When it comes to lethal force, owning the skill set of a sniper is another asset that could be associated by a bug out strategy. Sniping from a fortified place such as a house removes a lot of the danger of a sniper. Against a considerable force, if location was identified, the sniper in question could be as good as dead. But, take this out to someplace in the forest, in a place well analyzed with several hiding spots, and enough damage might be done to dissuade any would be looters.

4. Cooperation

Returning to the topic of collaboration from the other day, Becky had provided some excellent conversation. Her joining up with her sniper friend is obviously a win-win task. It wasn't shown whether or not her friend was preparing food store just like Becky was, however materials along with the firepower to protect them go with each other like milk and biscuits. Plus friendship could go a long way from a psychologist's emotional perspective if Becky chose to bug out to the hills.

Training her friends was another good play but may go wrong in the event of a failure. The friends questioned said that they were a little stressed which was easy to understand. From my perspective the entire demonstration looked a little staged. If they ended up being really frightened to ever prep, Becky would've written herself a ticket for 3 extra mouths to feed after the food markets ran out. Follow up would be vital in a situation such as this.
