Bruce Lee's Fighting Method: Why Must Martial Artists Have This DVD?

By Robin Charles

In 1974, four short books were introduced covering the basics of Bruce Lee's martial art form, Jeet Kune Do. In comparison to the books written and published these days, these four books would be considered cursory. Nonetheless, when they were printed, they were rather innovative. The DVD Bruce Lee's Fighting Method: The Complete Edition is a video edition of the first couple of books in the series, Self-Defense and Basic Training. In the DVD, two of Bruce Lee's original students (Richard Bustillo and Ted Wong) are featured. Visually, the DVD adaptation does a great job of conveying the contents of the two books.

Even though reading the print books is highly recommended because of the value they offer, the pictures in the books don't really do justice when it comes to effectively detailing the techniques that're being taught. Moving images are a lot more effective in teaching students the techniques. Consequently, the book's DVD edition is incredibly valuable. It provides you with the clear display of the tactics from the books in a way that is easy to follow. It is not really reasonable to expect that you would master Jeet Kune Do by simply watching the DVD. Nonetheless, it does give you a fantastic resource you can access anytime it's convenient for you. The DVD serves as a supplement as you learn the martial art.

Basic Training addresses warm-ups and exercises that aren't at all tough to do. These can help you maximize your training sessions. The fundamentals of Bruce Lee's art are also presented in this part so you are going to learn the fighting stance (the On-Guard) position, footwork, and basic offense and defense. In essence, you can view this as an introduction to Jeet Kune Do. In the DVD's Self Defense portion, you will get an introduction to the common Jeet Kune Do techniques, both offensive and defensive, that're particularly designed for dealing with street attacks and hostile attackers. You are going to find this portion of the DVD fascinating if you've always wanted to learn a few of Bruce Lee's moves and use them in self-defense scenarios.

One of the great things about this DVD is that the narration is excellent. The narration is in sync with what's happening on the DVD so you will never feel you are missing out on the important stuff. The production values are rather good. There are too many martial arts educational videos that're terribly produced. Since Bruce Lee's Fighting Method was created by Black Belt Magazine, its production budget was much more than the production budget of many instructional videos. Consequently, this particular DVD looks very professional. There are those who think production values are not really that crucial. However, a terribly produced training video is not going to really be able to meet its main goal, which is to successfully instruct its students. The video and sound quality of this video is top-notch. You won't need to worry about it undermining the material's presentation.

If you happen to be a serious martial artist, make sure you have Bruce Lee's Fighting Method: The Complete Edition DVD on your shelf. It is a must-have classic instructional video. The DVD has excellent insights into Jeet Kune Do, the martial art form that Bruce Lee developed. Moreover, you are going to learn numerous basic self-defense techniques.
