Selecting The Most Appropriate Camera For First Timers

By Erik Zent

In digital photography, the first thing that comes into your head before you get up and running is to understand what model of camera equipment to utilize.

The option to choose the best photography equipment should really be dependant on your own personal needs and degree of user skills. Thus, you must know which type of user you belong. Camera users are likely to be broken into three categories:

A. Amateurs

B. Hobbyists

C. Professionals

Knowing which category you fit can help you determine the components you would like and eventually identify which type fits into your budget. Selecting the best one requires that you know the features well suited for your needs.

Following are the primary features to take into consideration in a digital camera:

1. Optical Zoom - The picture quality and effect that you really want is largely determined by the optical zoom ability of your digital equipment. What type of pictures are you taking? Asking this question will let you identify the amount of optical zoom you will need. Generally, the greater the optical zoom range, the larger the quality of image you are taking. Newer versions of Point and Shoot cameras now offer optical zoom capabilities and the Super Zoom models offer optical zoom range of up to 30X. However, an optical zoom of at least 3X is already good enough.

2. Megapixel Image Sensor - The resolution of one's photos is dependent upon the amount of megapixels the camera offers. But generally, if you're not printing photos more than 8x10, elementary models are just fine simply because they usually have the set number of megapixel sensors ranging from10-12.

3. A huge high quality LCD display - When you're opting for a model that has no viewfinder, the Liquid Crystal Display LCD will be your alternative for viewing your target, so pick one that has a large LCD and viewable in a variety of lighting conditions.

4. Quality of lenses - The grade of your lens is an important factor in the quality of your photos. If you want to get sharper photos, get a camera model that includes a very high or just better optics.

5. It will also be useful to learn whether the model you propose to get has automatic or semi-automatic modes. While newer models offer intelligent automatic modes that automatically set the ideal scene mode for you, additionally, it is more beneficial to quickly learn how to manually adjust the scene mode for a certain setting.

For digital photography beginners who may be considering the art of photography seriously, a camera which offers better quality of image, flexibility and automatic or semi-automatic controls of important settings can be a very good preference.
