Justin Lee Collins on Trial For Harassment

By Hashim Javier

The unmistakeable Bristol-born comedian Justin Lee Collins is currently on trial in St Albans, accused of harassing his 38 year old former girlfriend Anna Larkin between January and August last year.

Justin began as a stand up comedian to widespread success and received great plaudits in 1997 which saw him awarded the title of 'Best New Comedy Act' at the Glastonbury festival as well as being a finalist in both the BBC New Comedy Awards and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Justin made his name as a stand up comic, for which he won a number of awards including the 'Best New Comedy Act' at the 1997 Glastonbury festival. That year also saw him reach the finals of the BBC New Comedy Awards and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He continued with stand up comedy until 2002 when he decided to quit and focus entirely on TV and radio presenting.

His radio career began in 2003 when he was awarded a Sunday afternoon show on London station XFM. He stayed with the station until 2005 when he left to pursue his TV career. He was chosen to present the E4 programme 'The Games: Live at Trackside', the companion show to the channel 4 series 'The Games. The show continued until 2006 when Justin hit it big with a new show called 'Bring Back'.

Justin's first really successful prime time programme was 'Bring Back', a show in which Justin and his team would travel around the world attempting to re-unite cast members from popular TV series of the seventies and eighties. The show had a very rough-and-ready edge to it, making it an instant hit with audiences.

Following on from the success of 'Bring Back', Justin went on to create 'The Convention Crasher' where he would travel around the world attending unusual conventions. Once at the convention he would attempt to become an expert in the specialist field in just a couple of days.

Following 'The Convention Crasher' Justin received his biggest break when he was presented with the opportunity to co-host a new show called 'The Friday Night Project' with funny man Alan Carr. Each week the couple were joined by a guest presenter and the three would take part in a range of activities and sketches. The show proved to be a huge hit with audiences.

Aside from his TV and Radio work, Justin is also patron of the Bristol Kids charity for which he has helped to raise a substantial amount of money. The trial has shocked many of the people in his hometown, the majority of who do not believe the charges to be true. His ex-wife has recently spoken in his defence, of his incredible warmth and kindness.
