About The Canon Powershot Camera

By Raymond Ebersole

The Canon Powershot is a complete line of high tech, handheld digital cameras for photography enthusiasts. Canon has built its reputation in the industry, becoming one of the best known brands on the market. The quality products, especially those in the Powershot series, appeal to photography newbies and professionals alike.

The point and shoot is a very popular model in the industry. This pocket or purse sized device allows customers to take pictures on the go and capture a variety of moments. It is the customary camera for novice photographers who have little experience with the technology. However, within this niche, there is a gamut of possibilities regarding the amount of control a photographer has.

The A series sets forth over two dozen models of the point and shoot. The specifics of each individual camera can be perused on Canon's website. Designed to be straightforward and easy to use, they still produce high quality images. The sixteen megapixel image sensor aids in this. The automatic setting also helps, knowing how to adjust for thirty-two different shooting environments. It also captures 720pixel HD video.

The next step up is the ELPH series. For users that are familiar with the technical aspects of photography, these provide all of the portability of a point and shoot with a touch of creative freedom. The ability to shoot in full manual mode and add such effects as selective color, advanced users will appreciate these features. Like their counterpart, the devices shoot HD video and have a 10.1 megapixel image sensor.

The next step up is the G series. More involved photographers will appreciate these models that are unlike any other point and shoots yet still manage to be portable and functional. The optical zoom has been enhanced as has the lens in order to capture as much of the scene as possible. Plus, certain models like the G1X allow almost as much control as a full on DSLR.

The most involved series is the SX with several top of the line cameras that boast one of a kind features. For example, Canon has introduced the first fifty times optical zoom on a camera in this series. Across the board, the zoom ranges from twenty to fifty times, getting up close and personal with the subject. The lens is not interchangeable, but in many other aspects, these cameras resemble DSLRs. From the body style to the range of shooting settings (aperture control, shutter speed control, manual, automatic), it is as close as one can get to the DSLR.

Thrill seekers that want to capture their adventures have a camera just for them as well. It stands alone in the D series. Temperature resistant, waterproof, and shockproof, it can be taken into harsh environments without getting damaged. It is the perfect tool for anyone who loves the outdoors. Unlike some expensive equipment, it is much less vulnerable to the elements.

For beginners looking for high quality point and shoots to capture all of life's little moments, this line holds the answer. Likewise, advanced users that want the ability to manipulate their images can also be satisfied. In fact, any customer in between can find the right camera as well. The Canon Powershot line is full of high quality and functional cameras.
