Specifically How To Play The Game Texas Holdem Poker

By Jacques Letourneau

Texas Holdem is a type of poker game that has been around for awhile now, but only recently has gained popularity. The game may be hard for some people to master, but it is relatively easy to catch on once one knows the strategies involved. This article will explain how to play Texas Holdem Poker (THP).

Every player is dealt two cards for their hand. Based on those cards, each player will has the option to check, bet, raise, or fold his or her hand. Afterwards, the game begins with three cards being played in the middle of the table, called the Flop. The game resumes with each player checking, betting, raising, or folding based on his or her own cards coupled with the community cards. This process continues through two more cards being added to the community strip, the Turn and the River. The player who plays, or bluffs, the best is considered the winner of the hand. The last person standing at the end of the game is declared the winner.

There are many different strategies to utilize that will not only dictate what type of player one will be, but also tells opponents how they will need to play. One strategy, loose-passive, means that players play nearly every hand whether or not it is good, and either check or call each time around. This player has more opportunities to win, based strictly on number of chances, and thus, more opportunities to lose.

Tight-passive players will only play stronger hands but will not bet or raise until a previous opponent does so. This strategy is good, but if one wants to win, one must bet and not be easily read.

Another style of playing is loose-aggressive, meaning he or she bets on just about everything, even before the first community cards have been laid. This is also known by the term bluffing. When trying to match wits, this is a great strategy, if seldom played.

The final type of player strategy, known as tight-aggressive, means that a player will only play winning hands, and will always bet or raise pre-Flop. This strategy minimizes the player's risk of loss, but also makes him or her the most readable type of player.

The best way to play and win at THP is by combining the four types of player. By keeping one's opponents guessing, he or she is more apt to be able to win, even if bluffing. One crucial thing to remember is that a normal game of THP can go on for hours, so being in great physical and mental condition is very important. Being patient is also a key factor. And finally, fold when one needs to fold.
